Welcome to Boquio Iron & Glass

Stained Glass

Working as a glass artist Tricia has expanded the horizons of stained glass by realizing glass pieces that, once conceived, are fused and formed in the kiln to create aesthetic works of art that are actually four dimensional, the forth dimension - transparency.

With a deep respect of ancient history and a love of the natural environment, Tricia is motivated to emulate nature and capture its wonders in traditional and contemporary designs in fused glass which will last forever.

Her fused glass reflects and echoes the colours and textures of Cornwall's natural world and Tricia's inspiration comes equally from the Cornish countryside and the coast near her home.

After a submission process, Tricia's work has been selected by the Cornwall Crafts Association and is displayed in their outstanding galleries at the National Trust's Trelissick Gardens near Truro and the privately owned Trelowarren Estate near Helston. The Cornwall Craft Association's selection process against published criteria is rigorous and ensures exhibitions of a high standard of work with a focus on design and innovation. President of the Cornwall Craft Association is HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Cornwall.

Tricia Christian, MA Stained Glass Artist

Tricia's stained glass bowls and plates, fused and formed in the kiln, are distinctive, stylish and elegant and she also has an impressive range of innovative stained glass panels which can be free standing or hanging. In these Tricia combines fused glass with complementary materials including slate, mosaic smalti, water worn pebbles, found items and seashells from coves and beaches near her home. Tricia takes commissions for celebratory and commemorative panels and delights clients by working with them to perfect the designs.

Commissions for domestic windows are also executed in fused glass; pictorial panels for two windows, each comprising twelve panels, depict, in one window, fond memories and favourite things of the client, which include reading, theatre and footpath walking, and, in the second window, a history of the building's various uses.

After working with traditional stained glass for many years Tricia discovered kiln formed glass and, under the tutelage of internationally renown fused glass artist Detlef Tanz, began exploring this delightful and expressive medium.

To broaden further her knowledge of glass, and expand her skills Tricia undertook a postgraduate Master of Arts Degree with the University of Wales. Based at the Swansea Institute of Higher Education, which is accepted worldwide as a centre of excellence for glass, Tricia worked hard to achieve the MA and for her final project she created artworks designed for the Eden Project combining kiln formed glass with wood, granite and John's wrought iron work. The culmination of the hard work was the award of the Master of Arts degree in Art and Design ~ Glass.

Always seeking fresh, different ideas Tricia is keen to work in partnership with landscape and garden designers to create impressive and eye catching garden art incorporating fused glass and John's wrought iron work.

Tricia's stained glass and John's wrought iron complement each other and create a pleasing tension which engages the viewer. With these combined talents Tricia and John look forward to an exciting future.
